Emory Men's Cross Country First At Georgia DIII Invitational

The No. 21-ranked Emory men's cross country enjoyed a successful debut to the 2017 season Friday evening, posting a first-place finish at the Georgia DIII Invitational. The meet was hosted by Berry College.

The Eagles topped the five-team field with 30 points.  Oglethorpe captured runner-up status with 58 points while Covenant College took home third place with 82 points.  Berry (88 pts.) and Piedmont College (132 pts.) rounded out the field.

Sophomore Marty Pimentel spearheaded the Emory effort by crossing the finishing line first out of 79 runners with an 8k time of 26:57.  Junior Bennett Shaw was the No. 2 overall finisher, clocking a 27:05. Freshmen Jacob Hedgepeth (27:54) and Egan Kattenberg (27:55) were the next two Emory entries to finish, ranking ninth and 10th, respectively in the field.  Senior Shane Sullivan was the squad's final scorer with his effort of 28:01 slotting him 11th.

Emory returns to action on Saturday, September 9, when it competes at the Furman Classic.
