Emory Men's Cross Country Fourth At UAA Championships

The 31st- ranked Emory men's cross country team competed at the University Athletic Association Championships on Sunday, registering a fourth-place finish at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Somers, Wis. 

The Eagles finished the meet with 122 points.  Defending its conference crown was No. 2 Washington University with 31 points, edging No 12 Carnegie Mellon's runner-up total of  37 points. No. 18 Chicago was third (98 pts.) while No. 30 Case Western Reserve rounded out the top five (136 pts.).

Junior Luis Torres paced the Emory pack, posting an 8K time of 26:17 that ranked 17th out of 77 runners. It marked the second time this year that Torres had finished as the Eagles' No. 1 performer. Junior Sam Branson was the next Emory representative to cross the finish line, clocking a 26:27 that placed 25th in the field. Sophomores Matt Dillon (26:29) and sophomore Jack Whetstone (26:30) finished 27th and 28th, respectively, while senior Bennett Shaw (26:40, 33rd) rounded out the Emory scoring.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday, November 10, when they head to Rome, Georgia, to compete at the NCAA South/Southeast Championships.
