Emory Men's Cross Country Wraps Up Season At NCAA D-III Championships

The Emory men's cross country team closed out its 2018 season Saturday at the NCAA D-III Championships.  The meet was held at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, Wisconsin.

The 28th-ranked Eagles registered a 31st-place finish with a total of 678 points. No. 1-ranked North Central (Ill.) raced to a first-place performance with 43 points while No. 2 Washington University was runner-up with 110 points.  UW-Lacrosse (127 pts.), Haverford (213 pts.) and Wartburg (227 pts.) rounded out the top five.

Emory's top four runners all recorded season bests, led by junior Luis Torres whose 8K time of 25:58 placed 171st out of 279 entries.  It marked the third straight meet that Torres had paced the Eagles' pack.  Senior Bennett Shaw was the squad's second finisher with an effort of 25:59 that ranked 177th in the field.  Junior Sam Branson was close behind Shaw at 26:00, with that time 179th on the final scoresheet.  Rounding out the Emory scorers were Matt Dillon (26:02) and Jack Whetstone (26:16).  Also competing for Emory were Andrew Kliewer (26:21) and Brett Lucas (26:26).

Dhruvil Patel from North Central finished first with a showing of 24:24.
