The Emory University men’s and women’s cross country teams sent representatives to Saturday’s Berry College Invitational, held at the Clara Bowl Course.

The Emory men’s squad recorded a fourth-place finish out of 20 teams with 141 points.  Taking home the top spot was Berea with 52 points while Chattanooga was runner-up with 114 points.  Kennesaw State (123 pts.) was third while Oglethorpe finished one spot behind Emory to close out the top five.  The Eagles saw freshman William McGuire rank as their top performer with an 8K time of 26:25 that placed 19th in the 213-runner field.  Sophomore Matthew Burke clocked a 26:50 that was second on the team and 34th overall. Freshman Spencer Moore was the third Emory runner to cross the finish line, clocking a 27:11 that slotted him 46th. Sophomores John Cox (27:13, 48th) and Jonathan Rosenfeld (27:20, 52nd) accounted for the rest of the Emory scoring.

The Emory women raced to a seventh-place showing out of 24 teams, totaling 220 points.  Chattanooga came in first with 39 points while the University of Georgia (65 pts.) and Berry 92 pts.) were second and third, respectively. Freshman Zoe Friedman paced the Emory pack with a 6K time of 23:58 that stood 25th out of 217 entries. Sophomore Amanda Li came through with a 25:03 that held down the No. 44 position overall while junior Ileana Zeissner crossed the line 54th with a mark of 25:17. Senior Paige Lesslauer (25:28, 61st) and sophomore Caroline Johnson (26:09, 77th) were the remaining Emory scorers.
