Emory Softball Rolls To Sunday Wins At 3n2 Elite Event

The Emory softball team closed out a perfect weekend of action with a pair of Sunday wins at the 3n2 Elite Event.  The Eagles opened with a 7-3 triumph over Huntingdon College before notching a five-inning 15-3 triumph over Agnes Scott.  Emory is 4-0 on the year.

Freshman shortstop Cassie Baca went 3-for-3 at the plate to highlight a 14-hit attack in the first outing of the day.  Four other players hit safely twice including senior Hannah Sendel, junior Taylor Forte, freshman Jenna Wilson and sophomore Janelle Turnquest.  The Eagles had to battle from behind against the Hawks with the visitors tacking up single runs in the first two innings.  After drawing even with a two-spot in its half of the third, Emory crossed the plate three times in the fourth with Sendel delivering the big blast of the inning with a two-run homer, her first of the season and 37th of her career. Emory closed out the game's scoring in the fifth with two more runs.  Junior pitcher Brittany File pocketed her third win in as many decisions, tossing the first four innings and striking out seven batters.

Emory kept up its hot hitting in the finale of the weekend, blasting away for 15 hits against Agnes Scott. Freshman Tori Risner, collected a pair of hits and finished with four RBIs on the strength of a two-run homer in the first that keyed a seven-run outburst and a two-run double in the fourth. Senior center fielder Alyssa Pollard turned in a 3-for-3 effort and the plate and scored three times, while Baca and freshman Emmeryn Wheeland each picked up two hits including a RBI triple that jumped-started a five-run Emory second inning.  Sophomore hurler Audrey Weller was the beneficiary of the offensive explosion, earning the win after going the first four innings and fanning a pair of Scotties.

Emory returns to action next Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 20-21) when it hosts the 3n2 Invite.  Joining the Eagles in that two-day event will be No. 7-ranked DePauw and Averett University.
