Emory University freshman Jessie Michael (Bishop, GA) has been named by the University Athletic Association as Softball Hitter of the Week following her efforts over a four-game stretch where she helped the Eagles to a 3-1 record. It is the first time this season that she has been selected for the award.
Michael started all four contests and hit a torrid .700 with seven hits in 10 plate appearances. In addition to her team-high batting average, she topped the squad with three doubles, five RBIs, a 1.300 slugging percentage and .727 on-base percentage. She hit safely in all four outings and totaled two multi-RBI games.
She went a combined 4-for-5 with four ribbies in a doubleheader sweep against Centre College, delivering a two-run single in a 6-4 opening-game win before going 3-for-3, which included her first career home run in the bottom of the second that proved to be the game-winning run in a five-inning, 8-0 victory.
On the year, Michael is hitting .372 (16 of 43) and is tied for the team lead with seven doubles.
Emory, 13-7 on the year, hosts Maryville College on Tuesday (Mar. 21) before venturing to Case Western Reserve for doubleheader action on Friday and Saturday.
