Emory Softball Swept By Wash U

Emory Softball Swept By Wash U

After being swept by Emory on Friday, the Washington University softball team turned the tables on the Eagles as it recorded a Saturday doubleheader sweep.  Wash U captured the first contest by an 8-0 margin before rallying for an eight-inning 10-8 decision in the finale.  The two setbacks dropped Emory's overall record to 21-11, 4-4 in the University Athletic Association while the Bears boosted their overall ledger to 13-6, 2-2 in the conference.

GAME 1 – WASH U 8, EMORY 0
** Emory is shutout for the first time this season, finishing the contest with six hits, two each by seniors Amy Wray and Taylor Forte.
** The Eagles have chances throughout the game and leave a total of 10 runners stranded on base.
** Holding a 1-0 lead, WU breaks the game open with a four-run fourth inning, with a pair of bases-loaded walks, a wild pitch and a hit batter accounting for the Bears' production.
** Sophomore Toko Miller takes the loss in the circle, dropping her record to 5-4.
** Amanda McKee tosses the complete game for WU, striking out three.

GAME 2 – WASH U 10. EMORY 8 (8 inn.)
** Forte puts together a 2-for-3 effort at the plate and socks a three-run homer, her first round tripper of the campaign, to highlight the Emory offensive attack. Forte claims a team-high 14 multi-hit contests this year.
** Wray and freshman Jessie Michael each hit safely twice and drive in a pair of runs.  It is Michael's 10th effort with two or more RBIs this season and Wray's fifth.
** The Eagles commit four errors allowing the Bears to score seven unearned runs off three Emory hurlers.
** WU tacks a pair of runs up in the first inning and follows that with a four-run burst the following frame to bolt to a 6-0 lead.
** Emory bounces back with a four-run third inning, keyed by Forte's homer, while a two-bagger by junior Janelle Turnquest plates Wray.
** The Eagles take an 8-6 edge after crossing the plate four times in the fourth inning.  Michael delivers a two-out, two-run single to account for the first two runs while a Wray double scores Michael and Forte.
** Wash U knots the score with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning.  The Eagles put a runner on first with two out in the bottom of the frame, but leave her stranded.
** A two-out, Texas-league single into shallow left field by Hannah Mehrle in the eighth snaps the deadlock and providing WU with its winning margin.
** A two-out walk to Forte, followed by a single from Michael in the bottom of the eighth keeps the Emory hopes alive but a ground out ends the comeback bid.
** Audrey Weller took the loss in the circle, evening her season record at 2-2.

Emory returns to action next Friday and Saturday (Apr. 7-8) when it hosts Brandeis in doubleheader action each day.
