Sarah Flanders & Toko Miller Capture UAA Softball Honors

Emory University juniors Sarah Flanders (Peachtree City, GA) and Toko Miller (Prescott, AZ) have been recognized by the University Athletic Association as the Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after helping the Eagles to a split of a season-opening doubleheader vs. Birmingham Southern.  It is the first time in their careers that both players have received the honor.

Flanders hit .667 with four hits in six trips to the plate. She scored a team-high three runs and finished with one RBI.  In the opening game, she doubled in the team's first run of the contest and later scored the Eagles' second run. In the nightcap, she went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored twice, including the game-winning tally in the bottom of the first in an eventual 5-0 triumph.

Miller tossed a complete-game shutout against the Panthers, allowing just three hits and striking out in helping the Eagles to a second-game, 5-0 victory. Miller sat down the final nine BSC batters she faced in recording her second career seven-inning whitewash.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday, Feb. 17, when they host No. 19 Berry College in doubleheader action starting at noon.
