Cassie Baca & Toko Miller Capture UAA Softball Honors

Emory University juniors Cassie Baca (South Pasadena, CA) and Toko Miller (Prescott, AZ) have been recognized by the University Athletic Association as the Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after helping the Eagles to a sweep of a doubleheader against Wesleyan College.  It is the second time in both their careers that they have received the honor.

Baca was named Co-Hitter of the Week (Jacqueline Finn, NYU) after posting a .667 effort at the plate (4-of-6).  In addition, she scored a pair of runs and totaled four RBIs.  In a five-inning, 12-1 triumph in the opener, Baca went 2-for-4 and scored once while driving in four runs. She recorded what proved to be the GWRBI when she stroked a two-run single in the bottom of the third, pushing the Eagles to a 3-1 edge, and delivered another two-run single the following frame as part of a seven-run explosion. In the nightcap, a 2-1 Emory win over the Wolves, Baca went 2-for-2 and scored the deciding run in the top of seventh, crossing the plate on a sacrifice fly after leading off the frame with a triple.

Miller came through with a solid relief effort in helping the Eagles to the second-game win and the subsequent sweep, pocketing her third win of the campaign in five decisions after tossing five scoreless innings that saw her allow just two hits, while striking out three, as the Eagles prevailed by a 2-1 margin.

The Eagles return to action on Friday, March 30, when they begin conference play with a home doubleheader against Case Western Reserve starting at 2:00 pm.
