Emory Softball Hosts Case Western Reserve

The Emory University softball team opens the University Athletic Association portion of its schedule this Friday and Saturday (Mar. 30-31) when it plays host to Case Western Reserve in doubleheader action both days.  On Friday, the games are slated for 2:00 and 4:00 pm starts, while Saturday's contests are scheduled for 1:00 and 3:00 pm.

Emory heads into the weekend with an overall record of 9-7.  Head coach Penny Siqueiros and her Eagles last played on March 22 when they closed out an eight-game road swing with 12-1 (5 Inn.) and 2-1 victories over Wesleyan College.   Junior Jenna Wilson leads Emory in hitting with a .375 effort at the plate (12-32) that has seen her register three multi-hit outings.  In addition, she has proven to be the Eagles' most dangerous performer on the base paths, going eight-for-eight in stolen base attempts.  Sophomore Jessy McLean (13-41) and junior shortstop Cassie Baca (15-48) are hitting .317 and .313, respectively, with McLean tied for the team lead with three doubles and Baca pacing the squad in runs (8) and hits.  In the pitching department, freshman Jacqueline Spizizen has produced a 5-4 ledger with her win total a team high.  She has tossed 45 2/3 innings and her 51 strikeouts rank second in the UAA while her average of 7.82 Ks per game tops the league ladder. Junior Toko Miller has figured in five decisions with three wins to her credit.

Led by eighth-year head coach Josie Henry, Case Western invades Atlanta with a record of 13-2.  The Spartans, who received votes in this week's NFCA Top 25 Poll, have won seven of their last eight encounters including an 11-7 verdict against Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday.   Senior Maren Waldner sets the offensive pace for the team with a hitting mark of .561 (32-57), which includes eight two-baggers and 15 RBIs. CWRU is hitting .360 as a team and has stroked 12 home runs.  Sophomore Ilissa Hamilton has hurled 48 2/3 frames and owns a won-lost mark of 5-1.

SCHEDULE NOTE – Emory has added an April 17 home doubleheader to its schedule against LaGrange College.  Action that day begins at 2:00 pm.
