Jacqueline Spizizen Captures UAA Softball Honor

Emory University freshman Jacqueline Spizizen (West Bloomfield, MI) has been recognized by the University Athletic Association once again as Pitcher of the Week following her efforts in the Eagles' four-game sweep of Case Western Reserve.  It is the third time this year she has garnered the award.

Spizizen registered a 3-0 record and earned a save over the weekend, finishing with an ERA of 0.49 over 14 1/3 innings of action. She allowed just one run and seven hits, while issuing three walks and striking out 11.

In the opening game of the series, she tossed all six innings in Emory's 8-0 triumph, giving up two just hits and fanning a pair. In Friday's second contest, she notched her second save of the season after a relief effort that saw her get out of a two-on, two-out situation in closing out the game and preserving a 2-1 Emory lead.  In Saturday's 7-1 verdict over the Spartans, Spizizen drew the start and threw five shutout frames, allowing three hits and striking out six. She followed that performance by coming away with the win in the series finale, coming through with a three-inning relief stint that saw her give up a run while whiffing three, as the Eagles prevailed by a 4-3 count.

Spizizen, the owner of an 8-4 won-lost record, has crafted an ERA of 2.10 over 60 innings of work. She has struck out a league-high 62 batters and her average of 7.23 Ks per seven innings is second among conference hurlers.
