NFCA D-III All-Region Teams

The Emory University softball team saw two of its players earn spots on the 2018 Atlantic All-Region Team as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).  As in the past, the squad is comprised of three 15-player teams in each of the country's eight NCAA regions.

Representing the Eagles on the all-region team were junior outfielder Jenna Wilson (Malvern, PA) and freshman pitcher Jacqueline Spizizen (West Bloomfield, MI).

Wilson was selected to the second team, concluding the season starting 36 of the 41 games she appeared in. She hit a team-high .451, with that mark currently second in the University Athletic Association and 12th on the Eagles' all-time seasonal chart. She totaled a team-leading 51 hits, fifth among UAA players, and hit safely twice in 17 contests. First on the club and third in the conference with a .475 on-base percentage, Wilson also stole 22 bases (third in the UAA) in as many attempts, with that effort ranking as the school's third-highest seasonal total.  This past weekend, Wilson was tabbed to the NCAA Atlanta Regional All-Tournament Team after hitting .400 (4-of-10) and scoring one run over the Eagles' three games.

Spizizen, a third-team honoree, crafted a 17-6 won-lost record, with her win total second in the UAA and 29th among D-III hurlers (through May 14).  She closed out the season with an ERA of 1.42 over 138 innings of work, striking out 155 (eighth on the program's seasonal list) while issuing just 28 walks. Her average of 7.9 strikeouts per seven innings tops the league and ranks among the top 30 in D-III. Named the UAA Pitcher of the Week on five occasions, she fanned 10 or more opposing hitters four times including a season high of 14 against Brandeis (Apr. 13). Spizizen made 19 starts in the circle and threw nine complete games.  She recorded a league-best six solo shutouts, placing her 28th on the national scene, with the opposition fashioning just a .194 average against her.  Spizizen tied a school record with four saves, tops in the conference and ninth among Division III players.

Emory finished the year with an overall record of 29-12 and won the UAA title with a 15-1 slate.
