The Emory softball team a weekend of University Athletic Association play with a split of a Friday home doubleheader against New York University. The Eagles captured a 10-inning, 4-3 decision in the opener before the Violets posted a 5-2 triumph in the nightcap. Emory now stands 22-8 overall 8-2 in conference action.
In the first contest, senior Jenna Wilson collected three hits and knocked in the winning run in the 10th. Junior Sarah Katz hit safely twice in four at-bats and also picked up a RBI. The Eagles trailed by a 2-0 margin before coming through with a three-run third, stringing together five straight hits after the first two batters were retired. Wilson got things rolling with a single before advancing to second as a result of a wild pitch. Katz then plated Wilson with a single and proceeded to score herself when Greta Wilker laced a double to center field. Wilker eventually crossed the plate following an infield single by Cassie Baca. Senior Madeline Maday registered the win, her sixth in eight outings, throwing two innings of scoreless relief. Senior Toko Miller drew the starting nod in the circle and tossed eight innings, allowing 10 hits and all three of the NYU runs.
In the second outing, the Eagles cut into a 3-0 deficit with a two-run third frame, courtesy of a two-out single by Wilker that scored Wilson and senior Sam Vincent. However, that would be Emory's lone runs of the game as NYU pitcher Karissa Zubulake raised her season slate to 5-3 after going all seven innings and allowing just four hits while striking out three. Sophomore Madison Schaefer took the loss, just her third in 12 outings, after
registering her fifth complete game of the campaign that saw her allow seven hits while fanning one.
Emory and NYU close out the four-game series on Saturday with a Senior Day twinbill starting at 1:00 pm. Following the conclusion of the second game, Emory Senior Day Festivities will be conducted recognizing the contributions of Cassie Baca, Max Faas, Lana Herrmann, Toko Miller, Madeline Maday, Sam Vincent and Jenna Wilson.
