Emory Softball Posts Two Elimination-Game Wins At Demorest Regional - Battles Piedmont On Monday For Regional Title

The Emory softball team rose to the occasion with a pair of Sunday elimination-game wins at the NCAA Demorest, Georgia Regional.  The Eagles opened with an 11-inning, 7-2 decision over Transylvania in its first game of the day before holding off host Piedmont, 5-4, in the day's finale.  Emory, 33-11 on the year, will square off against Piedmont on Monday afternoon for the Regional title with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm.

Emory 7, Transylvania 2 (11 inn.)
* The Eagles break open a pitcher's duel by exploding for a six-run 11th inning
* Emory sends 11 batters to the plate and records six hits in the 11th frame
* Cassie Baca opens the 11th with a single with Sami Feller and Greta Wilker following with singles that load the bases.
* Freshman Mattie Ryan delivers a two-run single which plates Baca and Feller, giving the Eagles a 3-1 edge.
* A sac fly by junior Natalie Arreguin scores Wilker while a RBI single by senior Jenna Wilson followed by a two-run single by Sarah Katz account for the other runs.
* Ryan ends the game 2-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, the ninth time this year she had driven in two or more runs.
* Sophomore Madison Schaefer earns her 15th win of the year after throwing two innings of relief, allowing one run while fanning two.
* Senior Toko Miller turned in a solid effort as the starter in the circle, tossing nine frames and allowing eight hits and one run while striking out six.
* Miller got out of a pair of jams, the first coming in the Transy second when it had runners at second and third with no outs before she regrouped to strike out the next three batters.  In the ninth, the Pioneers had runners at second and third with one out, but could not capitalize.
* Emory chalks up 12 hits.

Emory 5, Piedmont 4
* The Eagles fend off a seventh-inning charge by the Lions that sees them score all of their runs and have the tying run on third and the winning run on first.
* Natalie Arreguin picks up three of Emory's 11 hits, her ninth multi-hit contest of the year, and scores one run.
* Jenna Wilson's two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh proves to be vital as it stakes the Eagles to a 5-0 lead.
*Freshman catcher Krista Colussi comes through with a pair of hits in three at-bats and drives in the team's first run of the game with a sacrifice fly that scores pinch runner Mallory Nolen in the top half of the second.  Sarah Katz accounts for a ribbie in the same inning with a two-out single that pushes Arreguin across the plate.
* Madison Schaefer does not allow a hit over the first six innings and ends up with the victory (16-4) after recording her ninth complete game of the campaign in 17 starts, eventually surrendering five hits while totaling three punch outs.
*Emory outhits the Lions, 11-5, the 15th time this year it had racked up double figures in the hits department.
