Feller & Schaefer Capture Final UAA Softball Honors Of The Year

Emory University junior Sami Feller (Coral Springs, FL) and sophomore Madison Schaefer (Newton, MA) have been recognized by the University Athletic Association as the league's final Softball Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for the season. The duo helped the Eagles to a runner-up finish at the NCAA D-III Championships, the best-ever showing by Emory at the national tournament.  It is the fourth time this season and in her career that Feller has been selected while Schaefer was tabbed for the first time in her career.

Feller was one of three Eagles to earn a berth on the All-Championships Team, hitting .353 during the team's five-game run. She collected a team-high tying six hits in 17 at-bats, scored two runs and added one RBI.

In a come-from-behind 7-5 victory over Randolph-Macon, Feller went 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI, that coming in the fifth inning on a single that scored Cassie Baca, narrowing the team's deficit to 5-4 after trailing at one point by a 4-0 margin. Later on in the Championships, she raced from first base to score the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth on Greta Wilker's walk-off double in a 3-2 decision over Eastern Connecticut State.

Feller ended the year first on the team in hitting with a .373 mark, finishing third on the team in hits (59) and runs scored.

Schaefer accounted for two of the team's three wins over the five-game run, compiling an ERA of 1.29 over 16 1/3 innings of work. She allowed three earned runs and fanned two and allowed 14 hits.

Schaefer tossed a complete-game gem in a 2-1 victory over Trine, allowing just three hits and striking out one. She picked up the win in Emory's first game of the Championships, a 7-5 outcome vs. Randolph-Macon, after a solid effort in relief that saw her hurl five frames, surrendering just one run and five hits.

Schaefer closed out the season with an overall record of 20-4 in the circle with an ERA of 2.89 over 133 innings of action.

Emory finished 2019 with an overall record of 39-14.
