Sarah Katz Earns UAA Softball Honor

Emory University senior Sarah Katz (Lake Charles, LA) has been selected by the University Athletic Association as Softball Hitter of the Week for her performance in the Eagles' season opening doubleheader against No. 15 Birmingham-Southern College in Atlanta on Sunday. It is the first time that the second baseman has earned the honor in her career.

Katz hit .444, collecting a team-high four hits in 9 at-bats, while scoring three runs and registering four RBI. In the first game of the two-game affair, Katz lead off with a double and later came around to score, producing the first run of the Eagles' 2020 season. The senior would also notch another run in the sixth inning, reaching by way of error after she hit a hard-hit ball to third that was too much to handle. However, Katz did the majority of her damage in the high-scoring second game of the doubleheader.

In the night cap, Katz gave her team new life in the bottom of the seventh inning, as she doubled down the left field line with the bases loaded to drive in three runs. Her late-game heroics brought her Eagles back from a three-run deficit, tying the game 10-10, and sent the contest to an extra eighth inning where Emory would fall short to the Panthers, 12-10. Katz also had a hand in two runs for her team in the fourth, when she singled home a run and eventually made her way around the bases to score safely.

After the first two games of the season, Katz is tied for second on the club with four RBI.
