Emory Softball Hosts Piedmont In Doubleheader Action

The Emory softball team makes its long awaited home return on Tuesday (Apr. 27) when it battles Piedmont College in a doubleheader.  Action at the Emory Softball Field begins at 2:30 pm.  The Eagles last played at home on March 3, 2020, when they swept a doubleheader vs. Covenant College.

Emory Head Coach Adrianna Baggetta and her squad stand 5-1 heading into the twin bill against the Lions.  The Eagles last played on April 7 when they registered a pair of wins at Huntingdon College, 8-0 (5 inns.), and 13-1.  Emory is hitting an impressive .378 through six contests with junior Mattie Ryan owning a red-hot a .696 mark at the plate with a team-leading 16 hits in 23 plate appearances. In addition, Ryan, who has two or more hits in all six contests, paces the club with 10 runs scored.  Junior Krista Colussi checks in with an average of .476 (10-for-21) and is tied for second on the team in safeties.  Junior Megan Weisenberg is raking at a .435 clip (10-for-23) and has knocked in a team-high 11 runs.  In the circle, senior Madison Schaefer has logged all five of the Emory wins, compiling an ERA of 2.26 over 34 innings of work that has seen her fan 32 opposing hitters while issuing just three walks.

Under the direction of 23rd Head Coach Terry Martin (544-348), Piedmont stands 17-9. The Lions come to town on a hot streak with wins in their last three and in eight of the last nine contests.  Piedmont last played on Sunday (Apr. 25), sweeping Agnes Scott in a double dip, 8-0 and 9-1, both in six innings.

Following the Piedmont games, Emory returns home on Saturday (May 1) when it entertains No. 6-ranked Birmingham Southern in a pair of games starting at 2:00 pm.
