Emory Softball Falls at Home to NYU

After a Friday sweep over the NYU, the Emory University softball team fell to the Violets 11-2 on Saturday at Cooper Field. With the loss the Eagles record moves to 17-16 and 6-9 in conference play with five games remaining in the regular season.

The Eagles six hits weren't quite enough as the Violets had six extra-base hits that powered them to the five-inning victory. Graduate student Natalie Costero had a solid day for the Eagles going 1-for-3 at the plate and contributing one of Emory's two RBI. Senior Megan Weisenberg also went 1-for-3 at the plate and was one of two Eagles to cross the plate.

The Violets responded quickly to yesterday's defeats with a five-run first. The Eagles got a run back in their half of the first on an RBI-single to right by Costero but they wouldn't plate another run until the fourth inning. The Violets had another five-run inning in the fourth to put them up 11-1 which effectively put the game out of reach for the Eagles. Emory would score once more in the bottom of the fourth on a fielder's choice by sophomore Rachel Cocolis.

The Eagles return tomorrow at 12:00 PM at Cooper Field with hopes of winning the series against NYU before traveling to St. Louis, MO next weekend to take on WashU for their final series of the regular season. Following the conclusion of play, the Eagles will honor their seniors will a special ceremony on the field.
