Chu Honored by NFCA; Named to Region 6 Second Team

Emory University softball freshman phenom Ashley Chu was honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association earning All-Region honors as announced on Friday afternoon.

The recognition comes after additional season accolades for Chu as she was named the University Athletic Association Rookie of the Year and an All-UAA First Team selection earlier this month.

Chu started in all 38 games for the Eagles splitting time at second base and center field. She quickly established herself as one of the speediest players not just on the team, but also in the UAA as she finished first on the team and third in the UAA with 26 stolen bases. Chu also led both Emory and the conference with a .444 batting average with 60 hits, none of them being extra bases.

She went on a 21-game hit streak from February 19 through April 1 including a season-high four hits against Piedmont on March 18. She finished the season with a team-leading .490 on base percentage and third on the squad with a .444 slugging percentage.
