Emory Women's Basketball To Embark On Foreign Tour

The Emory women's basketball team will pack its bags and head overseas to Spain, May 9-18, where it will play three games while enjoying the opportunity to explore one of the Europe's most popular destinations.

The Eagles are scheduled to play the Madrid All-Star Team on May 11 and 13th, while matching up against the Catalan All-Stars on the 16th.  Two of the world-renowned cities head coach Christy Thomaskutty and her team will visit are Madrid and Barcelona, the site of the 1992 Summer Olympics.

"We are all excited about the opportunity to spend time out of the season together, further developing our basketball skills through additional practice time and game opportunities," Thomaskutty said. "But, more importantly, we are eager to use this trip to build upon both our team chemistry and relationships while experiencing a different culture."

Among the many sights the travelling party will see include the two main squares in Madrid, the Puerto del Sol and Plaza Mayor.  In addition, an excursion to Toledo, also known as the "City of Three Cultures" is on the planned list of things to visit. While in Madrid, the team will take in the Prado Museum, regarded as that city's top cultural venue as well as one of the great art museums in the world. Highlighting the stay in Barcelona will be a tour of the Park Guell Garden Complex and a trip to the beach resort of Stiges.

The team began practice on April 25 and will continue its preparation through its departure date of Tuesday, May 9.  The Eagles' contingent will depart Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport at 5:50 p.m., on the 9th, and arrive in Madrid the following morning at 8:35 am.   Emory will return to Atlanta the afternoon of May 18.
