Emory Women's Basketball Continues Trek In Spain

Emory Women's Basketball Continues Trek In Spain

Day 3 in Barcelona started out with a bang! After our complimentary breakfast, we headed to the famous La Sagrada Familia, the church of the holy family. Christina, our local tour guide, showed us around, in, and through the beautiful church. We were able to see all the stain glass windows, columns, altars, statues, etc. and learn about the history of the magnificent building. Christina informed us that La Sagrada Familia was still under construction and would take more than a decade to even finish the structure of the church; a couple of us toyed with the idea of coming back to Spain when we're alumni to see the finished product. We realized us freshmen would be about 38 at this time, which lead the coaches to think about old age...As Misha and Arnold Schwarzenegger said, "I'll be back." We then looked through the church museum and shopped through the gift shop to buy souvenirs!

After the tour, we headed back to our hotel for a delicious lunch and more shopping, cause why not. We then took our first siesta in Barcelona for a couple of hours and went out to dinner at a local restaurant called Lido. There, we ate burgers, sandwiches, and spaghetti while Shue ordered creamy Brussel sprouts and what she thought would be iced coffee, but was actually straight espresso over ice, whoops. After dinner, we gave Carmen, our original tour guide throughout this whole trip, an Emory eagle sweatshirt as a gift to thank her for all that she's done for us! We then switched to game day mode and got focused. We played a Barcelona all-star team and won 72-56!! As Erin would say, "We barce-Gonna beat that team!" and we did. We celebrated with hype music on the bus back to the hotel and gelato. I'm sad this trip is "closing times" in two days but am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel with, as Michelle would say, "mi Familia de baloncesto."
