Emory Women's Basketball Tops UT Dallas For First Win Of The Season

Sophomore Erin Lindahl paced five double-figure scorers in helping the Emory women's basketball team to a Friday evening victory in the opening game of the Emory Tip Off Tournament.  The Eagles gave Interim Head Coach Misha Jackson her first win and evened their mark at 1-1 following a 71-56 decision over the Comets who slipped to 1-1.

Lindahl scored 12 second-half points and ended the night converting five-of-nine field goal attempts along with all six free throw tries.  In addition, she pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds (her second-highest career total), allowing her to record her first career double-double.  Junior Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod and sophomore Lindsey Tse each totaled 14 points, with Tse contributing eight assists and four steals.  Junior Ashley Oldshue and sophomore Allison Chernow rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Emory connected on 52.8 percent (28-53) of its field goal attempts and held UT Dallas to a mark of 31.8 percent (21-66).  The Eagles finished with a 36-32 edge in rebounding and registered a 17-5 advantage in fast-break points.

Behind 12 points from Tse and 10 from Jackson-Sherrod, the Eagles raced to a 42-23 lead at halftime.  Tse was successful on all five of her field goal opportunities, including one triple, while Jackson-Sherrod knocked down five-of-seven from the floor. Tse also dished out six assists over the first two quarters of play.   The Eagles hit four of their first five shots en route to posting an 8-0 lead.  Emory led by as many as 10 points on two occasions during the opening stanza before closing out the frame with a 21-14 edge.
The Eagles kept the pressure on the Comets in the second quarter and used an 8-0 spurt over a 91-second stretch, the last five points coming from Tse, to bolt to a 31-16 lead with 5:59 left. UT Dallas closed to 12 points with 3:07 on the clock, but went scoreless over the remainder of the quarter while Emory scored eight straight points to take a 42-23 margin into halftime.

The Eagles maintained a healthy lead in the third quarter with UT Dallas only able to creep to within 14 points twice.  A bucket by Oldshue in the waning seconds pushed Emory to a 52-36 cushion heading into the final quarter. A 7-2 run that saw Oldshue tally four points and Chernow drain a triple gave Emory its largest lead of the night, 59-39, with 7:11 remaining in the contest.  The closest the Comets would get would be 12 points on three occasions, the final time coming with 1:48 on the clock. The Eagles were able to seal the game by going six-of-six from the charity stripe over the last 1:37 with Lindahl hitting four of those.

Emory returns to action on Saturday (Nov. 18) when it closes out the Tip Off Tournament with a contest against Belhaven at 6:00 pm.
