Emory Women's Basketball Faces Busy Stretch

GAME FACTS – The Emory women's basketball team starts a stretch that will see it play four games over a week span, starting with a Tuesday (Nov. 28) evening road date at Sewanee followed by a Thursday night home encounter against Piedmont College.

The Juhan Gymnasium on the Sewanee campus will provide the setting for the 35th meeting between the Eagles and the Tigers with tip slated for 6:00 pm (CST).  On Thursday, the scene moves to the Woodruff PE Center for the 32nd match-up between Emory and Piedmont with that affair slated for a 6:00 pm start.

THE COACHES – Interim Head Coach Misha Jackson (Emory, '13) was appointed to her current post in October of this year, following the resignation of Christy Thomaskutty.  Jackson had served as an assistant on the Eagles' staff since the 2013-14 season.  She played three seasons in an Eagle uniform (2010-11 through 2012-13), seeing action in a total of 78 games, 69 in a starting capacity. She closed out career ranked among the program's top-10 all-time performers in 11 categories.

Jackson is assisted by Lauren Rothfeld and Chuck Melito.

Tracey Braden (Central Missouri State, 1997) is in her first season at the helm of the Sewanee program.  Prior to current post, she had served as the head coach at Westminster College (Mo.) where she compiled a 10-year record of 155-100.  She guided the Westminster program to seven winning seasons and a pair of trips to the NCAA Tournament.

In her 13th year as head coach at Piedmont is Jamie Purdy (Piedmont, 2000).  Heading into the Emory contest, Purdy has recorded a school record of 217-110, which includes six campaigns of 20 or more victories. She has seen four of her Piedmont squads advance to the NCAA D-III Tournament including the 2016-17 unit that finished with an overall slate of 21-8.

2017-18 RECORDS – Emory heads to Sewanee with a 3-1 ledger.  The Eagles have won their last three contests including a 75-63 decision at Covenant College last Tuesday (Nov. 21).

Sewanee will entertain Emory with a 2-2 record.  The Tigers are returning to action for the first time since last Wednesday when they dropped a 64-53 verdict at LaGrange College.

Piedmont will invade the Woodruff PE Center with a 3-1 slate.  The Lions captured two games over the weekend at the USA South/SAA Classic hosted by Berry College, defeating Oglethorpe University, 66-65, and the host Vikings, 82-62.

SERIES RECORDS – With the first game played in December of 1988, Emory holds a 34-10 edge in the all-time series with Sewanee.  The Eagles have been victorious in the last eight match-ups including last year's 64-49 outcome at the Woodruff PE Center.  Emory has won the last three games played on Sewanee's home floor.

Emory posts an all-time record of 18-13 vs. Piedmont with the series having its roots in November of 1988.  The Eagles have won the last five and claim 10 of the 14 games played at the Woodruff PE Center.  Last season, the Lions hosted Emory and came away with a 70-67 victory.

EMORY TRIO TO SERVE AS CAPTAINS – Serving as captains of the 2017-18 Emory women's basketball team are junior Ashley Oldshue (Glenview, IL), and sophomores Allison Chernow (Dresher, PA) and Erin Lindahl (Yardley, PA).

TSE DIRECTING EMORY OFFENSIVE ATTACK – Sophomore Lindsey Tse has directed the Emory offensive attack from her point-guard position with a fair amount of precision, doling out 8.3 assists per game with that mark leading the University Athletic Association and placing third among all D-III players (through Nov. 26).

Tse has dished out seven or more assists in each of Emory's opening four contests and tied her career best with an 11-assists effort vs. Belhaven (Nov. 18) at the Emory Tip Off Tournament. In addition, her 2.8 assist/turnover ratio ranks seventh in the UAA.

OLDSHUE OFF TO STRONG STARTAshley Oldshue has gotten the 2017-18 season off to a solid start, averaging team highs in points (17.5 ppg, 5th in UAA), rebounds (8.3 rpg, 4th in UAA) and field goal percentage (.600, 2nd in UAA).

Oldshue has scored in double figures in all four games and is coming off a team-high 18-point performance in the win at Covenant College.  Career-wise, she has registered 30 double-figure scoring performances and holds down the No. 2 spot on the program's all-time ladder in field goal percentage (.535, 216-of-403).

LINDAHL MAKING BIG IMPACT – Sophomore Erin Lindahl has given Emory a big boost during the early portion of the schedule, tossing in 14.5 points while pulling down 7.8 boards per game, with both marks second on the club.

Lindahl came through with her second double-double of the year and her career in the victory over Covenant, finishing with 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.  Bolstering her offensive numbers has been her keen eye at the free throw line where she has converted a conference-high tying 92.9 percent (13-14) of her attempts. Lindahl finds herself 11th among UAA players in scoring average and sixth in rebounding.

NUMBERS TO NOTE – Emory has won its last 22 games when scoring 80 or more points … Emory has won 43 of its last 57 and 59 of its last 76 home games … Junior Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod has scored in double digits in her last three outings and is averaging 10.5 points per outing, good for the No. 3 spot on the squad … Jackson-Sherrod has shot 50 percent or better from the floor in all four games and her 52.5 percent (21-40) effort ranks sixth on the UAA chart … Sophomore Allison Chernow is averaging a team-leading 33.8 minutes per game and stands second in assists (3.8 apg) and steals (1.8 spg) … The second quarter has been kind to the Eagles as they own a 17.5-12.8 scoring advantage in that frame … Emory has outrebounded its last three opponents and shows a 37.8-35.8 per-game edge in that category through four games … Oldshue has a 26-game streak of double-figure scoring.
