Junior Ashley Oldshue scored a game-high 25 points but it wasn't enough as the Emory women's basketball team dropped a Thursday evening home decision to Piedmont College.  The Lions improved to 4-1 following a 54-48 verdict over the Eagles who slipped to 4-2.

On a night where points were hard to come by, Oldshue was the team's lone double-digit scorer, finishing the contest nine-of-14 from the floor and six-of-nine from the stripe in registering her 28^th consecutive double-figure scoring performance.  In addition, Oldshue grabbed a game-high 14 boards, her second-highest career total, en route to chalking up her third double-double of the year.

After a basket by junior Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod drew Emory to within one point early in the fourth quarter, the Eagles went scoreless for nearly seven minutes while the Lions scored nine unanswered points to take a 49-39 lead.  Down by a 50-41 count with 1:09 on the clock, the Eagles mounted a 7-2 run, with Oldshue producing five points, to creep to within four points with 20 seconds remaining.  But that would be as close as the Eagles would get as the Lions made a couple of free throws over the final 17 seconds to hold on, despite making just five free throws in 12 attempts over the last 1:09 of the contest.

Emory finished the game shooting 28.8 percent (19-66) from the field and converted just a pair of triples in 14 opportunities.  Piedmont sank 31.3 percent (20-64) from the floor and wound up at 29.4 percent (5-17) from beyond the arc.

Over the first two quarters that saw both teams struggle to generate any consistent offense, the Lions went into halftime with a 27-22 lead.  Emory connected on 29.4 percent (10-34) of its field goal attempts compared to Piedmont's mark of 28.9 percent (11-38).  After battling to a 10-10 draw after the first stanza, the Lions used a 5-0 run early in the second quarter, to claim a 17-12 advantage.  Buckets by Oldshue and Allison Chernow cut Emory's deficit to one point with 4:15 on the clock, but Piedmont built its lead back to five points with 1:14 remaining following a layup by Rachel Irby.  Two makes at the stripe by Chernow drew the Eagles to within two points, but a three-pointer from Lakerra Lawson in the waning moments stretched Piedmont to the five-point lead at the break. Oldshue paced the Emory scoring attack with 10 points, sinking five-of-eight field goal attempts.

Emory returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 2, when it plays at Birmingham Southern.
