Emory Women's Basketball Wins At Agnes Scott

Junior Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod and sophomore Erin Lindahl combined for 23 points in leading the Emory women's basketball team to a Tuesday evening victory at Agnes Scott College.  The Eagles snapped a two-game losing streak and upped their record to 5-3 following a 53-40 decision over the Scotties who fell to 1-7.

Jackson-Sherrod connected on six-of-10 field goal attempts in registering a team-high 12 points, her sixth double-figure scoring performance of the season. Lindahl was successful on four-of-11 from the floor and converted all three of her opportunities from the foul line in posting 11 points, her sixth effort of double digits so far this year.  Sophomore Lindsey Tse chipped in nine points while freshman Laura Sheckter contributed seven points, all of which came in the fourth quarter.

After ASC opened the third quarter with a basket that cut Emory's lead to 14 points, the Eagles blitzed the Scotties with a 12-0 spurt, with Lindahl accounting for seven points in that run, to claim a 38-12 advantage with 5:36 left in the stanza.  A layup by Lindahl, her eighth and ninth points of the period, kept the Eagles ahead, 42-17, with 2:42 on the clock.  ASC opened the final 10 minutes of play with six straight points courtesy of Garis Grant, who led all players with 17 points, but Sheckter scored all of her points over a 3:13 stretch, her final two coming with 1:07 remaining that gave the Eagles a 49-28 cushion.  The Scotties would close out the game with a 12-4 flurry.

Bolstered by an eight-of-11 performance in the final frame, ASC finished with an edge in field goal shooting, ending the night at 44.4 percent (16-36) vs. Emory's 35.4 percent (23-65).  Despite the edge in that department, the Scotties turned the ball over 42 times, which led to 21 Emory points.  The Eagles chalked up 25 steals, tying the second-highest game total in school history, with Tse and Lindahl pacing the team in that category with five and four thefts, respectively.

With Jackson-Sherrod scoring eight points and Tse and Allison Chernow each chipping in six, the Eagles staked themselves to a 26-10 halftime lead.  The Scotties got on the board first, but Emory ran off 12 straight points, holding ASC scoreless for nearly seven minutes in bolting to a 12-2 advantage.  After a bucket by Agnes Scott's Ashley Park, back-to-back baskets by Tse boosted Emory to a 16-4 edge after the first stanza.  Jackson-Sherrod knocked down a couple of jumpers in helping the Eagles to an 8-0 start in the second frame, stretching their lead to 24-4.  The Scotties closed out the final 5:06 of the stanza with a 6-2 scoring edge with Jackson-Sherrod accounting for Emory's points.  The Eagles were successful on 38.2 percent (13-34) of their field goal attempts compared to ASC's mark of 26.3 percent (5-19).  Emory recorded 10 steals and forced ASC into 19 turnovers, parlaying those miscues into 14 points.

Emory now breaks for final exams and the holidays, returning to action on Dec. 29 with a home date vs. Maryville College.
