Emory Women's Basketball Eyes UAA Home Weekend vs. Carnegie Mellon & Case Western

GAME FACTS – The Emory women's basketball team continues University Athletic Association play this weekend when it hosts a pair of conference foes.  On Friday (Jan. 12) the Eagles will take on Carnegie Mellon before squaring off against Case Western Reserve on Sunday.

The Woodruff PE Center will serve as the venue for the 58th meeting between Emory and CMU with that contest beginning at 6:00 pm.  On Sunday, the Eagles and Spartans will clash for the 49th time in a scheduled 2:00 pm start.

THE COACHES – Interim Head Coach Misha Jackson (Emory, '13) was appointed to her current post in October of this year, following the resignation of Christy Thomaskutty.  Jackson had served as an assistant on the Eagles' staff since the 2013-14 season.  She played three seasons in an Eagle uniform (2010-11 through 2012-13), seeing action in a total of 78 games, 69 in a starting capacity. She closed out her career ranked among the program's top-10 all-time performers in 11 categories.

Jackson is assisted by Lauren Rothfeld and Chuck Melito.

Jacquie Hullah (Penn State, '84) is in her seventh season at the helm of the Carnegie Mellon program.  Heading into the Emory game, she has posted a school record of 97-72, which includes a trip to the 2016 NCAA Tournament, the program's first appearance in the postseason in 25 years.  Now in her 19th year as a head coach, Hullah has registered a career mark of 254-227.

In her 11th campaign patrolling the sidelines at Case Western Reserve is Jennifer Reimer (Lycoming, '94).  Reimer has six winning seasons to her credit while compiling 123 wins. In 21 years as a head coach, Reimer posts a career ledger of 280-239.

2017-18 RECORDS – Emory sports an overall record of 6-6 (0-1 UAA).  The Eagles
opened league play last Saturday by battling No. 10 Rochester tooth-and-nail before dropping a 72-68 double-overtime decision. Sophomore Erin Lindahl came through with a big effort, registering her third double-double of the season with a game-high 19 points (second-highest career total) and 10 rebounds while junior Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod registered her first double-double of the year and second of her career with 14 points and a career-high tying 14 caroms.

Emory is 3-4 at the Woodruff PE Center and 3-2 in road contests.

Carnegie Mellon has gotten off to a good start and will meet Emory with an overall slate of 9-3.  The Tartans have won four of their last five encounters, and are coming off a 69-57 triumph at Case Western last weekend in their league opener.  CMU posts a 7-1 in road/neutral affairs and is 2-2 on its home floor.

Case Western heads into a Friday night game at Rochester looking to shrug off a five-game losing streak that has left its overall record at 3-8.  The Spartans are 2-5 in road/neutral venues and 1-3 at home.

SERIES RECORDS – In a series that began in December of 1988, Emory holds an all-time record of 36-21 against Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans have won the last three meetings including last year's 93-73 (in Pittsburgh) and 82-60 (in Atlanta) decisions.  The Eagles stand 21-7 vs. CMU in games that have been played at the Woodruff PE Center.

Case claims a 26-22 edge in the series with Emory which began in December of 1988.  The Eagles won both match-ups last year, 79-65 in Cleveland and 79-67 in Atlanta. Emory has won 13 of the 23 games between the schools that have been played at the Woodruff PE Center.

EMORY TRIO TO SERVE AS CAPTAINS – Serving as captains of the 2017-18 Emory women's basketball team are junior Ashley Oldshue  (Glenview, IL), and sophomores Allison Chernow (Dresher, PA) and Erin Lindahl (Yardley, PA).

OLDSHUE TOPS EAGLES IN SCORING AND REBOUNDING – Ashley Oldshue ranked second on the team with 15 points in the double-overtime outing vs. Rochester, her ninth double-figure effort in 10 outings this year.

The Eagles' top scorer on six occasions this year, Oldshue is tossing in a team-high 16.5 points per game, good for fifth place among UAA performers.

She has converted a league-best 56.3 percent (67-119) of her field goal opportunities with that effort 15th among all D-III players (through Jan. 8), and has sank 50 percent or better from the floor in seven contests.   Emory's leading rebounder in five outings, her 8.4 per-game average is good for the No. 4 spot on the UAA ladder. Included in her rebounding totals is a 2.5 per-game average on the offensive glass, good for fifth place among conference players.

Career-wise, she has registered 35 double-figure scoring performances and had a 30-game streak of 10 or more points snapped in the Oglethorpe (Jan. 2) contest. She also holds down the school's No. 1 position in career field goal percentage (.535, 250-of-467).

JACKSON-SHERROD A KEY COG IN OFFENSE
 – Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod continued her fine season last Saturday vs. Rochester, scoring in double digits for the sixth straight and 10th time this season with a 14-point afternoon.  Over her last six outings, she is averaging 13.5 points and shooting 51.4 percent (38-74) from the floor.

One of two players on the team to have drawn starting nods in all 12 games, she is third on the club and 14th on the UAA scoring chart (12.3 ppg).  Jackson-Sherrod has been one of the team's most efficient shooters, nailing 47.6 percent (69-147) of her field goal attempts, good for second place on the team and fifth in the conference. She has been successful on 50 percent or better from the floor in eight contests

TSE DIRECTING EMORY OFFENSIVE ATTACK – Sophomore Lindsey Tse has directed the Emory offensive attack from her point-guard position and is  doling out 5.4 assists per game with that mark leading the University Athletic Association and placing 18th among all D-III players (through Jan. 8).

Tse has dished out seven or more assists in five contests and tied her career best with an 11-assists effort vs. Belhaven (Nov. 18) at the Emory Tip Off Tournament. In addition, her 2.18 assist/turnover ratio is second in the UAA and stands 27st nationally.  Her four assists in the Rochester game upped her career total to 173, good for 17th place on the Eagles' all-time list.

NUMBERS TO NOTE – Emory outrebounded Rochester, 65-52, last Saturday with that total the third highest in school history … Sophomore Erin Lindahl has turned in nine performances of double-digit scoring and ranks second on the club and 12th in the UAA in scoring average (12.8 ppg) … Lindahl has been solid from the charity stripe, converting 88.2 percent (30-34) of her foul shots with that mark tops in the UAA and 25th nationally (through Jan. 8) … Emory is shooting 45.8 percent (170-371) from the floor in its six wins and 33.7 percent (137-406) in its six setbacks … The Eagles have outshot seven opponents from the floor and hold a 5-2 record in those games … Emory reserves have outscored the opposition subs in nine games … The Eagles grabbed a season-high 19 offensive boards in the Rochester game their 10th double-figure mark in that category … Freshman Blair Ripley has grabbed five or more rebounds in each of her last nine games and her season average of 5.6 boards per game is fourth on the team and 15th in the UAA … Ripley has 24 offensive caroms, tying for second on the club, and her 2.0 per-game mark on that end of the floor stands 10th among UAA players …  
Emory has won its last 22 games when scoring 80 or more points … Emory has won 44 of its last 61 and 60 of its last 80 home games … The first quarter has been kind to the Eagles as they own a 17.3-14.6 scoring advantage in that frame … The Eagles have outscored the opposition in 25 quarters while being outpointed in 21 (two quarters have been tied) … Emory has outrebounded seven opponents and holds a 40.8-39.2 per-game edge in that category … The opposition has scored 20 or more points in a quarter on 11 occasions compared to 10 for the Eagles.
