Emory Women's Basketball Tops Case Western Reserve

Sophomore Erin Lindahl led three double-figure scorers with 20 points in pacing the Emory women's basketball team to a Sunday afternoon win at Case Western Reserve.  The Eagles raised their overall record to 12-10, 6-5 in the University Athletic Association, following a 73-62 triumph over the Spartans who fell to 4-17 overall, 1-0 in the league.

Lindahl came up big in the final quarter, racking up 12 points in helping Emory to a 19-12 scoring advantage. Holding a 56-54 lead, the Eagles used back-to-back baskets by Lindahl to extend their margn to six points with 5:13 remaining.  After CWRU's Hillary Hellmann hit a shot, the Eagles rattled off six straight points, the first four coming by freshman Blair Ripley and the final two on a Lindahl layup, to bolt to an insurmountable 66-56 cushion with 2:48 on the clock.  Lindahl wound up the game eight-of-12 from the field, including two-of-four from three-point range, while converting a pair of free throws in registering her second-highest career total and 16th double-figure scoring effort of the year.

The junior tandem of Ashley Oldshue and Azziaria Jackson-Sherrod combined for 29 points and 12 rebounds, with Oldshue picking up 15 points and six boards while Jackson-Sherrod rang up 14 points and six caroms.  Oldshue, who went six-of-eight from the floor and three-of-three from the foul line, totaled 10 third-quarter points that helped rally the Eagles from a two-point halftime deficit to a 54-50 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Emory closed out the contest shooting 50.8 percent (30-59) from the floor, its second-highest mark of the season, while the Spartans checked in at 39.1 percent (25-64).  The Eagles connected on a blistering 62 percent (18-29) of their field goal opportunites over the final two quarters.  Emory sank five-of-13 three-point attempts while Case Western went 4-of-18 from distance.  The Eagles finished with a 35-33 edge in the rebounding battle.

Emory held a 16-15 lead after the opening 10 minutes of action, but Case used a 17-14 scoring advantage in the second frame to take a 32-30 edge into halftime.  Back-to-back buckets by the Spartans' Hillary Hellman gave the hosts a 24-19 advantage before extending it to a 27-22 margin following a three-pointer by Alexis Amburgey.  Jackson-Sherrod then took over the scoring chores for the Eagles, scoring all eight of her first-half points over the final 3:48 of the stanza.  Emory shot 40 percent (12-30) from the field compared to the Spartans' 38.7 percent (12-31).  Lindahl also tallied eight points for the Eagles, hitting three-of-seven from the floor, including a pair of triples.  CWRU's Hellman topped all performers with 14 first-half points en route to finishing with a game-high 22 points.

Emory returns to action next Friday (Feb. 16) when it hosts New York University in a 6:00 pm start.
