Emory Women's Basketball Picked For Third In UAA Preseason Poll

The 2018-19 Emory women's basketball team has been picked to finish third in the University Athletic Association in a preseason poll conducted by the league's coaches.

Defending league champion Chicago was chosen as the team to beat, picking up six of the eight first-place votes and recording 47 points.  Washington University was selected for second, accounting for the other two first-place ballots and totaling 44 points.  Emory was next up with 32 points.

Emory head coach Misha Jackson enters her second season at the helm of the Eagles' program with 13 returning veterans from last year's squad that finished with an overall record of 13-12, including a 7-7 slate in UAA action that represented the highest win total since 2013.

The Eagles have all five starters back in the fold including senior post Ashley Oldshue, who is coming off a banner 2017-18 season.  The 6-foot-2 Oldshue landed her second straight berth on the All-UAA First Team, closing out the year with team-high averages in scoring (15.9 ppg), rebounding (8.4 rpg), field goal percentage (.543) and blocked shots (34).  Senior Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod, one of two players to have started all 25 games last season, emerged as a key contributor after tying for the No. 2 spot on the club in scoring (12.2 ppg) and ranking second in rebounding (6.0 rpg). A double-figure scorer on 18 occasions, Jackson-Sherrod was selected to the All-UAA Second Team. Junior Erin Lindahl is a solid two-way performer who garnered honorable-mention status to the all-conference team after tossing in 12.2 points and averaging 5.7 boards per contest.  Directing the Emory offensive attack will be junior point guard Lindsey Tse, who paced the league while standing sixth in the D-III ranks in assists average (6.2 apg).

Emory opens the 2018-19 schedule on November 12 when it hosts Oglethorpe University.
