GAME FACTS – The Emory women's basketball team will host two more games before breaking for finals and the Christmas holidays, beginning with a Saturday (Dec. 8) date against Birmingham Southern that will start at 4:00 pm. Following the contest against the Panthers, the Eagles welcome Agnes Scott College into the Woodruff PE Center next Tuesday (Dec. 11) in a 5:00 pm start.
THE COACHES – Head Coach Misha Jackson (Emory, '13) is in her second season at the helm of the Eagles' program. Named Interim Head Coach in October of 2017, she guided the Eagles to a 13-12 slate last season, which included a 7-7 mark in University Athletic Association play, the highest win total in league play since 2013. She then had the Interim tag removed in March of this year.
Jackson joined the Eagles' staff as an assistant prior to the start of the 2013-14 season. She played three seasons in an Eagle uniform (2010-11 through 2012-13), seeing action in a total of 78 games, 69 in a starting capacity. She closed out career ranked among the program's top-10 all-time performers in 11 categories.
Jackson is assisted by Sammi Goldsmith and Chuck Melito.
Mike Ricks (Houston, '04) is his fourth season as the head coach of the Birmingham Southern program and will bring a school record of 56-34 into Saturday's contest. Under his guidance, the Panthers have won two regular-season championships, a conference tournament title and have a second-round appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Prior to his current post, he served a four-year stretch as the head coach at the University of St. Thomas in Houston.
In his second campaign as the head coach at Agnes Scott is Albie Biggs (Misericordia, '04).
Before his appointment as head coach, he served as the Scotties' assistant coach for one year.
2018-19 RECORDS – Emory has won its last three games, boosting its record to 5-2. In their most recent outings the Eagles won at home against Sewanee, 72-52, on Nov. 27 before claiming a well-earned 68-62 triumph at Berry last Friday.
Senior Ashley Oldshue produced a team-high average of 14.0 points over the two contests, shooting a 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the floor in the process, while juniors Allison Chernow and Erin Lindahl each tossed in 11.5 points. Oldshue also ranked as the Eagles' top rebounder at 7.5 boards per game with Chernow helping out on the defensive end of the floor with seven of Emory's total of 14 thefts in the two outings.
Birmingham Southern has been victorious in its last two games and will match-up against Emory with a 3-4 won-lost slate. In their last contest, the Panthers hosted and defeated Piedmont by a 62-58 margin on Saturday.
Before making its way crosstown to Emory, Agnes Scott will play at LaGrange on Wednesday (Dec. 5) before hosting Brevard and Berea on Dec. 8 and 9, respectively. Prior to its LaGrange game, ASC stood 0-5.
SERIES RECORDS – In a series that saw the first game played on Dec. 31, 2007, Birmingham Southern holds a 7-3 edge over the Eagles. The Panthers have the last four meetings, which includes last year's 65-53 outcome at BSC. Each team claims two wins at the Woodruff PE Center.
Emory has won all 15 meetings against Agnes Scott. The two programs first met on Feb. 17, 1993, with the Eagles prevailing by a 53-40 count. Emory is 8-0 against the Scotties in contests that have been played at the Woodruff PE Center.
EMORY TRIO TO SERVE AS CAPTAINS – Serving as captains of the 2018-19 Emory women's basketball team are senior Ashley Oldshue (Glenview, IL), and juniors Lindsey Tse (Calabasas, CA) and Erin Lindahl (Yardley, PA).
EMORY DEFENSE STINGY – Heading into the Birmingham Southern game, Emory has held five opponents to 62 or fewer points. The Eagles hold down the No. 3 spot among UAA teams in scoring defense at 59.1 points per game. In addition to that statistic, Emory is second in the conference with a 5.4 per-game average in blocked shots, with six or more rejections in four contests.
EAGLES SHARP AT THE STRIPE – Despite shooting a season-low 52.9 percent from the foul line in the victory at Berry, Emory still maintains a solid 73.8 percent mark at the charity stripe, good for third place among UAA squads. The Eagles have converted 70 percent or better
of their foul shots on five occasions and have three contests of 80 percent or better.
Allison Chernow stands as the team's top marksman from the foul line, connecting on 89.2 percent (33-of-37) of her attempts, good for fifth place on the UAA ladder.
RIPLEY GIVES A BENCH BOOST – Sophomore Blair Ripley has been a productive member of the Eagles' bench corps, averaging 17.9 minutes, 6.6 points and 3.6 rebounds over the team's first seven games. Ripley is shooting 58.1 percent (18-of-31) from the field and has knocked down three-of-four from beyond the arc. She is third on the team with six blocked shots and has come up with five steals.
OLDSHUE CONTINUES CONSISTENCY – Ashley Oldshue has gotten off to a solid start, scoring in double figures on six occasions and leading the team in scoring with a 15.9 points-per-game average, good for a fourth-place tie among UAA players. The team's top scorer in five contests, she has tallied 20 or more points twice this season. She has connected on 57.1 percent (40-of-70) of her field goal opportunities, good for a second-place tie on the league ladder, and has been successful on 50 percent or better of her floor attempts in five games.
In the rebounding department, Oldshue tops the squad with a 7.3 per-game average, tying for fifth place among the league leaders, and has ranked as the Eagles' leader in that category in four contests.
NOTES – Lindsey Tse's six assists in the Berry game, boosted her career total to 302, good for fifth place on the school's all-time list and just seven shy of moving past Susan Lippert (2000-04) into the No. 4 spot … Tse sits atop the UAA chart with an average of 5.6 assists per game …
Ashley Oldshue continues her climb up the Eagles' all-time scoring ladder with her 978 points ranking 10th … Oldshue enters the weekend with 51 career performances of double-figure scoring … Emory has outshot six opponents from the floor … Junior Allison Chernow, a double-figure scorer in four games stands second on the club and sixth on the UAA list in scoring average (15.6 ppg) … Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod has produced three double-figure scoring contests thus far, raising her career total to 27 … The Eagles show a 37.9-34.6 per-game in rebounding … Sophomore Molly Weiss recorded career highs with 13 points and 30 minutes of action in the team's 72-52 victory over Sewanee.
