Oldshue Reaches 1,000 Career Points In Emory Women's Basketball Win Over Agnes Scott

On a night that saw senior Ashley Oldshue register her 1,000th career point, the Emory women's basketball team came away with their fifth straight win following a victory over Agnes Scott College.  The Eagles raised their overall record to 7-2 after posting an 86-47-verdict over the Scotties who fell to 0-9.

Needing nine points to reach 1,000, Oldshue became the 10th player in program history to join that club with a bucket with 7:15 left in the second quarter.   She finished the evening scoring a game-high 14 points (eighth double-figure outing of the year) on seven-of-11 shooting from the floor.

Sophomore Blair Ripley came off the bench and rounded out Emory's double-figure scorers with 12 points, converting five field goals in eight opportunities.  Senior Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod, junior Lindsey and sophomore Laura Scheckter all contributed eight points with Jackson-Sherrod pulling down a game-leading six rebounds.  All totaled, 14 of the 16 Emory players who saw action found their way into the scoring column.

Emory finished the contest shooting 50 percent (37-of-74) from the field and was successful on 43.8 percent of its three-point tries, hitting seven-of-16 from distance.  Sophomore Lynn Johnson and freshman Anna Arato led the team in that department with two triples apiece.  Emory finished with a season-high 28 assists, tying the ninth-highest single-game mark in school history, with Tse pacing all players with nine over 21 minutes of action.

Holding a 15-10 lead after the opening 10 minutes, the Eagles blew the game wide open with a 17-0 blitz to start the second stanza, with ASC not registering a point until there was 3:29 left in the frame.  Allison Chernow scored five points during that run while Oldshue and Jackson-Sherrod each chipped in four points.  Emory outpointed ASC by a 25-4 count in the second stanza in taking a 39-14 lead into the break.  Oldshue rang up 10 first-half points on five-of-nine field goal shooting while Jackson-Sherrod added six.  Emory connected on 45 percent (18-of-40) of its field goal attempts while the Scotties checked in at 23.5 percent (4-of-17).   ASC was hampered by 16 turnovers with the Eagles chalking up 13 steals.

Emory now breaks for finals and the holidays with the team returning to action on Dec. 29 when it ventures to Rhodes College.
