The trio of senior Ashley Oldshue, junior Allison Chernow and sophomore Blair Ripley combined for 48 points in leading the Emory women's basketball team to a Saturday afternoon victory at the University of Rochester in the University Athletic Association opener for both squads.  The Eagles won for the eighth straight time and raised their overall record to 10-2 following a 70-52 triumph over the Yellowjackets who slipped to 6-6.

Oldshue topped all players with 18 points, sinking seven-of-13 from the field along with all four of her attempts from the foul line. It represented her eighth straight and 11^th double-digit scoring performance of the campaign. Chernow and Ripley both added 15 points to the cause, with Chernow closing out the game successful on four field goals in eight attempts, including a pair of three-point fields, while sinking five-of-five from the foul line. Ripley, who tallied 13 second-half points converted six-of-eight from the floor, including one triple, and both of her foul shooting attempts.

After building a seven-point lead at halftime, the Eagles put some distance between the hosts in the third stanza with a 23-13 scoring advantage that put Emory ahead by a 53-39 count.  The Eagles opened the frame on a 16-4 blitz, highlighted by Ripley scoring six points, to lay claim to a 49-30 bulge with 3:53 left in the quarter.   Rochester did manage to draw to within 12 points with 3:45 left in the game, but buckets by junior Lindsey Tse and Ripley, followed by a pair of free throws by Chernow, allowed Emory to seal the outcome by boosting its lead to 66-48 with 95 ticks remaining.

Emory ended the game shooting 50 percent both from the field (26-of-52) and three-point range (5-of-10) while limiting Rochester to 31.3 percent (20-of-64) from the floor, the 11^th straight contest the Eagles shot better from the floor than the opposition.  Emory rang up a 44-30 edge in rebounding with Ripley leading the effort on the glass with 10 rebounds.  Tse doled out seven assists and ranked second on the team with eight rebounds, while Erin Lindahl chipped in nine points.

Shooting 48 percent (12-of-25) from the floor, including 50 percent (4-of-8) from three-point range, the Eagles enjoyed a 33-26 lead at halftime.  Holding a 23-22 advantage, Emory went on a 10-2 spurt, with Oldshue scoring six points during that stretch, pushing it to a 33-24 margin. Chernow paced the offensive attack with nine points, keyed by a pair of triples, while Oldshue and Lindahl added eight and seven points, respectively. UR connected on just 27.6 percent (8-of-29) of its field goal opportunities but did manage to sink three treys in six tries.

Emory returns to action next Friday (Jan. 11) when it plays at Washington University in a 7:00 pm (EST) start.
