Emory Women's Basketball Wins At Brandeis

The Emory women's basketball team opened the second half of University Athletic Association play on a successful note Friday evening, using 15 points apiece from juniors Erin Lindahl and Allison Chernow to post a road win at Brandeis University.  The Eagles won their fourth straight game and raised their overall record to 14-5, 5-3 in the UAA, with a decisive 72-42 decision over the Judges who fell to 7-11 overall, 3-5 in the league.

Emory used a dominant effort over the second half in securing the victory, outscoring Brandeis by a 37-15 margin. The Eagles stymied the Judges' offensive efforts, holding the hosts to just 10.7 percent (3-of-28) from the floor over the last 20 minutes while converting 46.8 percent (15-of-32) of their attempts.  Emory enjoyed a 45-33 edge in rebounding with senior Ashley Oldshue grabbing a game-high 11 boards, her sixth performance of double figures this season.

Lindahl ended the contest successful on five-of-nine from the field, including a pair of treys, and sank three free throws in notching her 10th double-figure scoring performance of the campaign.  Lindahl also increased her three-point field goal streak to 14 games, the 10th longest in school annals.  Chernow went six-of-16 from the floor in ringing up her eighth consecutive and 12th outing of the year with double digits.  Chernow also dished out six assists and grabbed nine rebounds, her second-highest total of the year.  Senior Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod rounded out the squad's double-figure scorers with 10 points.

Holding a seven-point lead a little before the midway point of the third quarter, the Eagles exploded for 15 straight points to balloon their lead to 56-34 with 23 seconds left in the frame.  With Jackson-Sherrrod scoring six points and sophomore Blair Ripley picking up five of her nine points on the evening, Emory outscored BU, 21-9, in the third to take a commanding 56-36 cushion into the final 10 minutes of action.

Emory got off to an excellent start in the game, sinking seven of its first 14 attempts from the floor, including four treys, and scoring nine points off five Brandeis turnovers in racing to an 18-3 lead with 3:02 left in the first quarter. After the Judges responded with seven unanswered points, a triple by Lindahl with five ticks on the clock gave the Eagles a 21-10 edge.  Chernow tallied nine first quarter points, via three three-point field goals, while a pair of Lindahl treys accounted for her six points.  Emory built a pair of 16-point leads during the second frame, the last being a 32-16 margin following a bucket by Ripley with 5:08 left on the clock. However, the Eagles would not hit a field goal for the remainder of the stanza, misfiring on five field goal tries, while turning the ball over on four occasions, with the Judges closing out on an 11-3 run to draw to within eight points at the break.  Emory shot 41.9 percent (13-of-31) from the floor and was led in scoring by Lindahl who posted 11 points.  BU was successful on 37 percent (10-of-27) of the field with Camila Casanueva registering eight of her game total of 10 points.

Emory returns to action on Sunday when it plays at New York University in a 2:00 pm tip.
