Emory University senior Ashley Oldshue (Glenview, IL) has been selected as the University Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week after helping the Eagles to wins at home over a pair of nationally ranked conference foes. It is the third time this season and in her career that she has received the honor.
The 6-foot-2 Oldshue led the team in both scoring at 20.5 points per game and blocked shots (3.5 bpg) as the Eagles defeated No. 21-ranked and league leader Washington University and the No. 17-ranked University of Chicago. In addition, Oldshue tied for first on the squad in rebounding (8.0 rpg) and shot 68 percent (17-of-25) from the floor in helping Emory up its overall record to 17-5, 8-3 in the conference.
In a 75-66 triumph over Washington University, Oldshue paced the Emory scoring attack with 21 points, ending the contest 10-of-15 from the floor, which included her sinking her lone three-point field goal opportunity. She scored 14 second-half points, knocking down seven field goals in nine tries, in sparking the Eagles to a 45-34 scoring edge over the final two quarters. She followed that performance with her sixth double-double of the season, a team-high 20 points and game-best 13 rebounds in a 60-57 decision over Chicago. Oldshue converted seven-of-10 from the floor and six-of-eight from the charity stripe in posting her sixth outing of 20 or more points. She scored nine points in the final stanza that helped Emory secure the victory. Oldshue also tied her career high with six blocked shots (Emory tied school record with 14 rejections) and in the process set a program single-season record with 48 blocks, bettering the previous standard of 43 set by her head coach, Misha Jackson (2012-13).
Through games played Feb. 10, Oldshue finds herself prominently ranked in a host of UAA categories including third in scoring (16.5 ppg), fifth in rebounding (8.0 rpg), first in field goal percentage (.565), fourth in free throw percentage (.808) and second in blocked shots (2.2 bpg).
Emory returns to action on Friday (Feb. 15) when it plays at Case Western Reserve.
