Women's Basketball Set to Face NYU and Brandeis at Home

The Emory University women's basketball team hosts New York University and Brandeis University in the final home regular season weekend of the 2019-20 season. Tip off against the Violets is set for 6:00 PM EST Friday evening with the matchup against the Judges concludes the weekend at 2:00 PM EST on Sunday.

Emory Eagles (15-5, 6-3 UAA)

After dropping three of their last four, the Eagles enter the third-to-last weekend in a three-way heat for the University Athletic Association title, tied atop the league standings with Chicago and NYU at 6-3. Emory, sitting at 15-5 overall, is currently receiving votes in both the D3Hoops.com and WBCA national top-25 rankings after a 1-1 week which featured a win over #13/21 Chicago, 51-39. Emory also finds itself ranked in the first edition of the NCAA regional rankings released Wednesday, sitting seventh in the South region.

This weekend, the Eagles will honor their six-member senior class of Erin Lindahl, Allison Chernow, Lindsey Tse, Benna Ames, Safiya Dzotsi and Hazel Carmona with a special ceremony prior to the start of the Brandeis games on Sunday. The six-member class has helped the Eagles post a 62-34 record across the four previous seasons and the program's fourth-ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2018-19. They are one of only 11 classes to win at least 62 or more games in a four-year span.

Emory is under the leadership of Head Coach Misha Jackson who owns an overall record of 47-26 during her three seasons at the helm. She is joined on staff by Sammi Goldsmith and Chuck Melito.

NYU Violets (16-4, 6-3 UAA)

The Violets were able to pull themselves into a tie for first place in the UAA following a 2-0 weekend against Carnegie Mellon and Case Western Reserve and find themselves receiving votes in this week's WBCA national poll. NYU is also among those regional ranked as it is currently positioned second in the East behind Ithaca.

NYU has registered a 5-3 record since falling to the Eagles on January 17th and is led offensively by UAA leading scorer Janean Cuffee. The junior out of New York is 21st in all of Division III with 20.5 points per game. In addition to Cuffee, the Violets feature freshman standout Brooklyn Shelton who has produced averages of 13.7 PPG, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in her rookie season.

NYU is patrolled on the sidelines by Head Coach Meg Barber who has produced an overall record of 33-14 in her two seasons. She is joined on the bench by Nettie Respondek, Audrey Cunningham, Taysha Pye and Emiko Smith.

Brandeis Judges (13-7, 3-6 UAA)

The Judges have dropped four of six since the previous meeting with the Eagles, picking up road wins at WashU and Case Western Reserve during the stretch to push their overall record to 13-7. Brandeis is highlighted by junior guard Camila Casanueva who leads the team with14.1 points per contest and senior forward Hannah Nicholson, who joins Casanueva in double-figures at 11.3 PPG. Casanueva doubles as the team's lead facilitator, averaging a team-leading 4.2 assists per game, second best in the UAA behind NYU's Annie Barrett (7.1) while Nicholson tops all UAA leaders with 9.2 rebounds per game.

Brandeis is under the tutelage of tong-time Head Coach Carol Simon who is in the midst of her 33rd season with the team. Simon is joined on staff by Scott Foulis, Aseem Rastogi and Chelsea Houlihan.

Series Records

NYU holds a 42-20 overall record in the all-time series however it has been the Eagles controlling the series in recent years with Emory winning six of the last eight meetings including a 74-59 decision over the Violets back on January 17th.

The Eagles control the advantage against the Judges all-time, leading the series 35-27. Emory has won five straight in the series and seven of the last eight and were 75-67 victors back on January 19th in Waltham.
