Women's Basketball Never Trails in Non-Conference Finale; Hands Rhodes 74-50 Loss

The Emory University women's basketball team finished its non-conference slate with a 74-50 win over Rhodes College Monday afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Eagles showed no rust in their third game in four games, picking up their third straight win to improve to 11-2 overall. Rhodes sees its three-game winning streak halted with the loss, slipping to 8-8 on the season.

For the second straight day Emory never trailed across the 40 minutes, earning the 24-point win. Senior Claire Brock highlighted the well-balanced scoring attack with 16 points with junior Izzy Munson adding 12 points of her own. Ten different Eagles found the scoring column with six players recording at least seven points or more.

Sophomore Daniella Aronsky knocked down three triples for nine points and dished out five assists while forwards Morgan Laudick and Katherine Martini each had eight points. On the glass, seven different Eagles grabbed four rebounds or more with junior Erin Martin and freshman Lily Kennedy securing a team-high six rebounds. Emory forced 22 turnovers and held the Lynx to 27.8% shooting from the field.

The Eagles jumped out to a 12-4 lead and led by as many as 10 in the opening quarter prior to Rhodes ending the period on a 5-0 run to send the game to the second with Emory in front 17-12. Emory maintained a multi-possession lead for most of the second quarter and closed the half with a 10-5 run to head into the locker room leading 36-26.

The second half was all Eagles as they never saw the lead dip under eight points across the final 20 minutes, outscoring Rhodes 38-24 in the final two quarters on their way to the win.

Emory returns to UAA play next weekend with road tilts against No. 1 ranked NYU and Brandeis.
