Emory Women's Golf Places Three On All-UAA Team -- Chong Earns All-Region Nod

Three members of the Emory University women's golf squad were recently selected to the All-University Athletic Association Team.  The all-league picks were chosen by the conference coaches.  The trio includes freshmen Mariana Chong (Lima, Peru) and Rebecca Schiffman (Chevy Chase, MD) and sophomore Ksheera Jalakam (Frisco, TX).

Chong concluded the year as the team's scoring leader, averaging 79.9 strokes over 12 rounds of play.  She was the Eagles' top performer at the Golfweek DIII Spring Invitational (Apr. 2-4) and at the MCC Intercollegiate (Apr. 11-12) where her 36-hole score of one-over par 145 placed third out of 50 players, helping her become the first Emory player to capture the league's Women's Golfer of the Week honor. During the second round of the MCC Intercollegiate, she posted the team's top score of the year, a two-under par 70.  In addition to her spot on the All-UAA Team, Chong landed a berth on the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-South Region Team.

Schiffman enjoyed a fine rookie season, placing second on the team in scoring average with an effort of 80.3 strokes over 12 rounds. The top Emory finisher and eighth overall out of 82 entries at the season-opening Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate (Mar. 19-21), Schiffman also ranked as the Eagles' No. 1 scorer at the NCAA D-III Championships (May 11-14) in East Lansing, Michigan with a 72-hole score of 314, good for a 15th-place tie out of the 131 players who started out in the field. Her third-round score of 75 at nationals was the top mark turned in by an Emory player over the tourney.  Her best 18-hole tally came during the first round of the MCC Intercollegiate when she carded a 74, which ended up being the program's second-best score of the campaign.

Jalakam logged 12 rounds of competition over four tournaments and averaged 80.5 strokes per outing. She was Emory's No. 2 scorer at the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate, Golfweek DIII Spring Invitational and the NCAA D-III Championships. Her best score of the year came during the opening round of the MCC Intercollegiate when she totaled a 77. Through two years in the program, Jalakam is averaging 80.3 strokes over a total of 24 rounds.

In just its second year of intercollegiate competition Emory Women's Golf earned a spot in the NCAA D-III Championships where it finished seventh.
