Women's Golf Takes Third at Microjuvenate Panthers Classic

After a second place result after the first round, the Emory University women's golf team finished third at the close of the Microjuvenate Panthers Classic in Bessemer, AL. The two day, 36-hole tournament was played at 5,603-yard, par-72 Bent Brook Golf Course.

The No. 1 ranked Eagles trailed No. 4 Methodist by seven strokes after the first round of play and while they shrunk that lead to five strokes at tournaments end, the torrid pace of No. 18 Rhodes in the second round saw Emory fall into third. The Eagles posted a second round score of 293, improving on their first round by six strokes, to bring their tournament total to 592 (299-293). Methodist took home gold carding a 587 (292-295) while Rhodes' tournament-best second round saw them finish in second recording a score of 590 (301-289).

Freshman Ellen Dong had an outstanding tournament finishing in second place after posting a score of 141 (68-73). Dong's first round score of 68 is the best single round score of the spring season by any Eagle and helped her generate the best two-round score in program history. Freshman Sharon Mun posted the best second round score for the Eagles with a 72 to bring her two-day total to 148 (76-72) which was good for a seventh place tie. Sophomore Irene Wang finished just behind Mun carding a 149 (77-72) to finish tied for eleventh. Freshman Heejo Hyun tied for the tournament-lead in total pars (24) for a score of 154 (78-76) and a 20th place tie. Rounding out scoring for the Eagles was sophomore Mariana Chong whose two-day total of 155 (79-76) slotted her into a tie for 22nd.

The Eagles will take the next month off as they prepare for the four-day NCAA Division III Championships at the Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, TX that will take place from May 10-13.
