The Emory University women's golf team has advanced to the final round following the cancellation of the third round by the NCAA Golf Committee on Thursday in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
Due to a severe pin location at Hole 6, it was determined that round three would officially be canceled on the grounds of an unplayable hole for the entire tournament field. With the decision, the Eagles will be one of 15 teams advancing to the final round following their two-day score of 639 on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The decision was made in the evening, well after the Eagles had put forth their best round of the tournament to this point. Teeing off in the morning, Emory turned in a team combined score of 309 – the best team score of any program so far at the NCAA Championships.
Sophomore Sharon Mun continued her impressive tournament run on Thursday shooting a three-over 76 for the second day in a row moving into a tie for fifth place individually. Freshman Cindy Wang recorded her biggest outing of the tournament so far as she was four over (77) alongside junior Irene Wang also shooting a 77 placing them in a tie for 18th and 48th respectively. Sophomore Ellen Dong carded a 79 while freshman teammate Katie Park recorded an 82 over 18 holes.
With the cancellation, the Eagles will head into Friday's finale where they stood Wednesday night in a three-way tie for fourth, 10 strokes behind leader George Fox. Emory is set to tee off at 8:50am on Friday and will be paired with fellow UAA members WashU and Carnegie Mellon.
