The Emory University women's golf team finished play at the NCAA Championships on Friday, taking fifth overall in the team standings. The 2023 NCAA Championships were held at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
Following Thursday's round three cancellation, the Eagles hit the course in the morning on Friday for the now third and final round. Emory shot a team tournament-best 311 (+19) collectively in the finale to finish fifth overall with a three-round score of 950. George Fox University claimed the team championship at 933 over the week with fellow WashU taking the runner-up position five strokes back. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was third at 943 with Carnegie Mellon in fourth at 947.
Sophomore Ellen Dong and junior Irene Wang paced the Eagles on Friday as both players shot a four-over 77. Dong finished in a tie for 17th individually with Wang placing in a tie for 42nd. Sophomore Sharon Mun finished one back on Friday as she carded a 78. Mun was Emory's top individual finisher as she came in a tie for 11th. The Eagles' freshmen duo of Cindy Wang and Katie Park each finished under 80 on the day, posting scores of 79 to wrap up their NCAA debuts. Wang tied for 27th in the individual standings with Park tying for 56th.
It is the third straight year the women's golf program finished among the top seven schools at nationals: earning seventh in 2021, winning the national championship in 2022 and now fifth in 2023.
