Franty & Morell Named UAA Women’s Soccer Athletes of the Week

Emory University freshman forward Emily Franty and junior defender Jordan Morell were selected as the University Athletic Association (UAA) Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for their performances during the 19th-ranked Eagles' 9-0 win over LaGrange College last Wednesday.

Franty scored the first two goals of her collegiate career in the game.  She notched her first goal in the 64th minute of the contest off an assist from Chloe Donegan, and followed that just five minutes later with her second goal, coming off an assist from Lindsey Wilson.  She came off the bench in the game to play 37 minutes in the game, leading all players with seven shots and five shots on goal.

Morell helped the team record its seventh shutout of the campaign in the game, making just her second career start at center back and playing all 90 minutes in the game.  Her defensive effort aided an Emory defense that limited the Panthers to just one off target shot in the game.  She has played in all 14 games this season for the Eagles, including three in a starting role, and has assisted on three goals.

This was the first conference athlete of the week honor for both Franty and Morell.

With the win, the Eagles improved to 8-1-5 on the season.  Emory will be back in action on Tuesday night, facing Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama at 8:00 PM ET.
