Morell's Clutch Goal Gives Emory 2-1 Win Over Bridgewater

Jordan Morell's go-ahead goal in the 87th minute gave the Emory University women's soccer team a 2-1 victory over Bridgewater College on Sunday afternoon.

Morell outshot the entire BC team in the game by a 6-3 margin. The senior had two close chances early in the first half but had her first shot saved and then hit the post with her next opportunity moments later. She finally broke through to the scoring column when it mattered most to help Emory to the win.

The Eagles finished 2-0 over the weekend at the Washington & Lee Tournament, dominating both sides of the ball in both contests. Emory outshot its opponents 36-5 in the two games including a 12-3 mark on shots on goal.

Sophomore Anna Gurney opened up the scoring in the 16th minute with her second career goal. Bridgewater answered late in the second half as Julia Baca scored on a breakaway to tie the game at 1-1 in the 81st.

Emory will return to Atlanta to host LaGrange College in the 2015 home opener this Wednesday night. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00pm.
