Emory Women's Soccer Earns Third Straight Draw, Ties Rochester 2-2

The Emory University Women's Soccer team closed out the 2016 regular season on Saturday night, playing to a 2-2 double overtime tie against the University of Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium in Rochester, NY.

Following an Emory (9-5-3, 2-2-3 UAA) own goal in the sixth minute, the Eagles responded moments later as sophomore Grace Edgarton evened the score at 1-1 in the 10th minute of the opening half. Edgarton found the back of the net with a chip shot from 12 yards out. The goal was Edgarton's fifth of the season while freshman Shivani Beall picked up her team-leading eighth assist on the play.

Rochester (5-7-6, 2-3-2 UAA) took a 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute thanks to some excellent passing. McKenzie Runyan netted the go-ahead goal, one-timing a shot from inside the box on a great feed from Jorie Freitag. Jean Chakmakas was able to set the play up, passing to a wide open Freitag down the sidelines with a pass from midfield. Freitag then took a few dribbles before putting a cross past three Emory defenders and finding a streaking Runyan in the box.

The lead was short lived as junior Kaitlyn Dorka scored the equalizer in the 64th minute. After an Emory throw in, Dorka collected the loose ball inside the box before taking one step and firing a shot to the far post to tie the game at 2-2.

The Eagles had a chance to take the lead with eight minutes remaining in regulation as senior Hannah Meyer was awarded a penalty kick following Yellowjackets contact in the box. However, Meyer's shot sailed high over the crossbar.

Emory outshot Rochester 22-12 in the contest including a 6-4 margin in overtime. The Eagles best opportunity came from Dorka in the 101st minute as she was able to get off a shot from the 18 but her attempt was right at UofR's Samantha Hlavac who was able to make the stop. Rochester had the closest chance for either team in the extra sessions as Lee Stagg fired off a shot from 25 yards out in the 109th minute but just missed the far post.

The Eagles will now await word if they will receive a berth to the 2016 NCAA Tournament which will be announced on Monday afternoon. The selection show will air on the NCAA.com site at 1:30 pm.
