Emory Women's Soccer Places Six on All-UAA Team; Shivani Beall Named Rookie of the Year

UAA RELEASE

Six student-athletes from the Emory University Women's Soccer team were named to the All-University Athletic Association as announced by the league office on Monday morning.

Senior Hannah Meyer and freshman Shivani Beall earned First Team honors with senior Cristina Ramirez, junior Anna Gurney, sophomore Danielle Darius and freshman Caroline Kolski being tabbed as Honorable Mentions. In addition, Beall was named the conference's Rookie of the Year, becoming just the third Eagle in program history to earn that distinction.

Beall was one of two Eagles to start all 17 games this season, finishing with team-highs in goals (5), assists (8), points (18) and shots on goal (24). Her 18 points were the most by a UAA first-year this season and were the most by an Emory freshman since Emily Feldman's 20 points in 2011. Beall notched at least one point in five of the seven UAA contests this year, registering two goals, a UAA-best four assists and finished tied for second among all UAA field players with eight points.

Meyer closes out her career by earning her third All-UAA team selection and her second consecutive appearance on the First Team. She started every game for the Eagles for the second straight season, anchoring a backline that held opposing teams to 18 goals in 17 games (1.00 goals-against average) and averages of 7.3 shots and 3.4 shots per game. Meyer added four points on the offensive end, scoring a goal in Emory's 3-2 win over Berry and picking up assists against Cal Lutheran (L, 2-1) and Case Western Reserve (W, 4-0). Earlier this season, the Austin, TX native was named to the CoSIDA All-District Team for the first time in her career for her performance on the field and in the classroom.

Gurney is an Honorable Mention for the second consecutive season after starting in six UAA contests, recording seven shots with four being on goal. For the season, she made 15 starts finishing with a career-high seven points (2G, 3A) with all seven points coming in Emory victories (4-0). The Bethesda, MD native tied a career-high with three points (1G, 1A) in the Eagles' 3-0 win over Redlands on September 5th.

Ramirez wraps up her Emory career by being named to her first All-UAA team, earning Honorable Mention honors, after posting a double-digit point total for the fourth straight season. Ramirez was one of four Eagles to finish with double figure points, tallying 11 (4G, 3A) in 17 games. In seven UAA matches, Ramirez tied for the team lead with three goals and added an assist for seven points. Two of her three goals acted as game-winners as Emory defeated previously unbeaten and then-ranked #4 University of Chicago (2-0) and Case Western Reserve (4-0). She was one of two Eagles to collect UAA weekly honors, being named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week on October 18th.

Darius notches the first All-UAA honor of her career, earning Honorable Mention status following her sophomore campaign. Darius appeared in 17 contests, making 13 starts on defense, helping the Emory defensive unit post a 1.00 GAA for the season while holding 12 of 17 opponents to under 10 shots total for the game. She added three goals and one assist for a career-best seven points and registered the game-winner in overtime as Emory toppled Berry 3-2 on September 21st.

Kolski rounds out the Eagles representation on the All-UAA squad, earning Honorable Mention accolades after a strong debut season. Kolski was one of four Eagles to finish the year with double-digit point totals, ranking second on the team with 13 (5G, 3A) in 17 games played. She tied for the team-lead with three goals during UAA competition, finding the back of the net in wins over then-ranked #4 Chicago and Case Western Reserve and in a 1-1 tie at NYU. The Palmetto Bay, FL native had one game-winning goal on the season, coming in overtime against #23 Centre on September 25th, handing the Colonels their only regular season loss over the course of the last two seasons.

Emory finished the 2016 season 9-5-3 overall giving the program its 28th straight winning season. In UAA action, the Eagles placed fourth going 2-2-3.
