Women's Soccer Gears Up for Road Tilts Against #9/12 Carnegie Mellon & Case Western Reserve

The Emory University Women's Soccer team gears up for the final road trip of the 2017 regular season as the Eagles are slated to face #9/12 Carnegie Mellon University and Case Western Reserve in University Athletic Association action.

Emory sits in sixth place in the UAA standings at 1-2-1, a game behind CMU, Brandeis and NYU for third, heading into the second-to-last weekend. Top-ranked Chicago is alone in first with an unblemished 4-0 record. Friday evening's matches also feature Chicago at NYU, WashU at Brandeis and Rochester at CWRU.

Sunday slab of contests has WashU on the road at NYU, Chicago traveling to Brandeis and Rochester versus Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh in addition to Emory at CWRU.

RV/22 Emory Eagles (9-4-1, 1-2-1 UAA)

The Eagles recorded their eighth shutout of the season on Saturday, blanking Roanoke College 2-0 at the WoodPEC. Junior Dani Staffin turned away four shots as she posted her fourth clean sheet of the year en route to collecting UAA Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career. Staffin joins classmate Jordan Doak as Eagles who have earned conference weekly honors this season.

Sophomore Shivani Beall registered her team-leading third game-winning goal in the win on Saturday. She ranks tied for second on the team with three goals on the year, one behind sophomore Caroline Kolski and freshmen Anne Otterbein and Samantha Hilsee for the team lead.

With the win, the Eagles moved to 22nd in this week's D3Soccer.com's national rankings and are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches top-25. Emory also occupies the sixth spot in the second edition of the NCAA regional rankings released Wednesday afternoon.

#9/12 Carnegie Mellon University Tartans (10-2-2, 2-1-1 UAA)

The Tartans enter Friday's meeting 10-2-2 on the season and a perfect 7-0 mark at home. Senior Haili Adams and sophomore Ryan Casey carry CMU offensively, tallying 21 and 20 points respectively. Adams and Casey have combined for 17 of the team's 35 goals with Adams scoring a team-best nine markers during her senior season. Carnegie Mellon features one of the tougher defensive units in Division III, limiting opponents to six goals in 14 games while ranking 19th overall with a 0.41 goals-against average. Freshman Carolyn Botz has made all 14 starts in goal as a rookie, posting 25 saves for .806 save percentage with eight shutouts to her credit.

The Tartans are coached by Yon Struble who is in his eighth season with the program. During his tenure, Struble has compiled a 94-31-10 record and has taken CMU to five straight NCAA tournaments.

Case Western Reserve University Spartans (6-9, 0-4 UAA)

Case Western Reserve is still in search of its first UAA win since the 2014 season, having gone 0-18-3 over its last 21 conference games. Senior Elle Zadina is the lone Spartan to reach double-digits in points so far in 2017, leading the team with 14 on the strength of six goals and two assists. Sophomore Kimberly Chen sits second on the team with three markers and two assists for eight points. CWRU has allowed 21 goals in 15 games this season, ranking second-to-last among UAA programs with a 1.38 GAA. Sophomore GK Lauren Unterborn has played every minute in goal for the Spartans this season, leading the association with 81 saves.

CWRU is under the leadership of Tiffany Crooks who has compiled an overall mark of 88-86-25 in 11 seasons with the school.

All-Time Series

Carnegie Mellon has taken the previous two meetings from the Eagles but still trail in the all-time series 19-5-2.

Emory has never lost to Case Western Reserve in 30 all-time meetings with the Eagles dominating the series 28-0-2. Emory posted four goals in last season's tilt, winning the contest by a 4-0 margin.
