Comeback Falls Short for Emory Women's Soccer at #9/12 Carnegie Mellon

The Emory University Women's Soccer team's comeback against No.-9/12 Carnegie Mellon University fell just short Friday night in Pittsburgh, PA as the Eagles fell by a score of 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, the Tartans struck with a pair of goals in the span of 47 seconds that proved to be the difference. The Tartans first scored in the 60th minute as Morgan Kontor headed in the loose ball after it bounced twice into the box following a throw in. Seconds later, CMU doubled its advantage as Alex Moy drilled a shot to the near post after a Siena Stritter corner kick.

The Eagles answered as freshman Lily Dresner connected on an indirect kick inside the box in the 82nd minute. Sophomore Caroline Kolski ran over top and touched it back to Dresner who struck it low and to the left of the Carnegie Mellon wall and into the back of the net. The indirect kick was given after a CMU defender played the ball while on the ground.

Freshman Caroline Botz improved to 11-2-2 for the Tartans after making two stops. Junior Dani Staffin dropped to 5-3-1 while making five saves.

Carnegie Mellon outshot the Eagles 16-6 in the game and 7-3 in shots on target. CMU also held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Emory returns to play on Sunday afternoon with a road matchup at Case Western Reserve. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 PM.
