Danielle Darius Makes FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Debut Against China

Emory University senior Danielle Darius made her debut on Monday in the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup, starting at center back for the Haitian National Team in the country's first-ever appearance in the U-20 World Cup.

Darius started and played all 90 minutes in a hard-fought defeat against China, 2-1, to open the group stage of the tournament. Haiti out shot China 23-13 including a 9-6 edge in shots on target. Darius played a key role in Haiti's first-ever World Cup goal, as she sent a far cross into the box where her Haitian teammate was tackled before having a chance to receive the pass. The referee awarded Haiti with a penalty kick following the tackle and Mondesir was able to convert to cut the deficit to one in the 78th minute.
