Three Second Half Goals Leads Women's Soccer Past Maryville, 3-1

Three second half goals paved the way for a 3-1 victory for the Emory University Women's Soccer team against Maryville College Tuesday night at the Woodruff PE Center. With the win, the Eagles improved to 8-4 on the season while the loss dropped the Scots to 8-5 overall.

After playing to a scoreless tie in the opening 45 minutes, Emory began the second half with a flurry of shot attempts culminating with a highlight reel goal to put the Eagles in front in the 56th minute. Sophomore Caroline Moore sent a centering pass into the box where junior Caroline Kolski back heeled it to senior Madison Phaneuf inside the six where she finished it for her fourth goal of the season

The Eagles padded their lead 20 minutes later with a pair of goals almost a minute a part. Moore scored a goal of her own in the 75th, blasting one through the Maryville's keepers hands from 12 yards out before junior Shivani Beall stole a backwards pass and buried it home for her fifth goal of the season.

The Scots ruined the Emory shutout as they broke through in the 85th minute as Shannon Reagan took advantage of a weak backward pass by the Eagles and beat junior Hayley Pratt for the goal.

The Eagles were in control for most of the match, outshooting the Scots 30-5, 15-5 on target, and winning the corner kick battle 8-2.

Emory heads north this weekend for two big UAA matches, beginning first with NYU at 8:30 PM on Friday before facing Brandeis on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM.
