Women's Soccer Entertains Carnegie Mellon & CWRU; Senior Day to be Held Sunday

The Emory University Women's Soccer team, 4-1-1 in the month of October, looks to keep building its NCAA tournament resume this weekend as the Eagles welcome Carnegie Mellon University and Case Western Reserve to Atlanta for the final home games of the regular season. Kickoff against the Tartans is set for 7:30 PM Friday night with the home finale is slated for 1:30 PM on Sunday against the Spartans.

Eagles (10-4-1, 1-2-1 UAA) to Honor Seniors on Sunday

Prior to the start of the match on Sunday, Emory will honor its nine-member senior class of Nikki Batt, Danielle Darius, Sophia Dillon, Jordan Doak, Nylah HamiltonAbbe McCarterHope MorganMadison Phaneuf and Dani Staffin. This group has helped the Eagles to a 37-22-9 record over the last four years including back-to-back 10-win campaigns.

Phaneuf and McCarter are among the team leaders in scoring this season with Phaneuf trailing only junior Shivani Beall for the team lead in points with 15 on the strength of a career-high six goals and three assists. McCarter has posted two consecutive double-digit point seasons and enters the weekend fifth on the team with 11 points (4G, 3A). Staffin ranks second in the UAA with a career-high 46 saves and is 10-4-1 in her 15 starts this year to go along with a 0.83 goals against average and .807 save percentage.

Carnegie Mellon University (7-6-1, 0-4-0 UAA)

The Tartans have fallen in four straight matches with three coming to ranked UAA foes in Brandeis, WashU and Chicago and are still looking for its first conference win of the year, sitting at 0-4 in UAA play and 7-6-1 overall. Senior forward Kaily Bruch has carried the Tartan offense on the year with four goals and two assists for 10 points, Bruch is one of five CMU players with two or more goals on the season while junior Ryan Casey leads the team with three assists. Sophomore keeper Carolyn Botz has started 12 of the 14 matches on the year, going 6-5-1 between the posts with a 1.31 GAA and a .615 save percentage. Head Coach Yon Stuble is in his ninth season with the team, posting a 106-40-13 record and is assisted by Chris Moraga and Scott Backus.

Case Western Reserve University (7-7-0, 0-4-0 UAA)

The Spartans are just 2-5 over their last seven contests and are coming off a 3-0 non-conference win at home against Oberlin to even their overall record at 7-7. Freshman Christina Hickson leads the Spartans with seven goals this season, while classmate Christina Hickson is tied with junior Kimberly Chen for the team lead with 14 points. Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Metz currently ranks first in the UAA with 72 saves and ranks fourth with a .818 save percentage and has posted a 1.26 GAA in her 14 games this season. CWRU is led on the sidelines by 12th-year Head Coach Tiffany Crooks who owns a 96-95-25 overall record and is assisted by Eric Lapsansky, Abbey Smith, Isabel Kazour and Megan Materson.

All-Time Series Records

Emory leads the all-time series 19-6-2 against Carnegie Mellon but the Tartans have edged the Eagles in the past three meetings including a 2-1 win last season in Pittsburgh, PA.

The Eagles also own a 28-1-2 series mark over the Spartans however Case Western Reserve earned their first win in the series last year, defeating the Eagles 5-2 in Cleveland, Ohio.
