Women's Soccer Dominates Mount St. Joseph, 5-0, for Third Win

The Emory University women's soccer team rounded out a dominating weekend on the pitch Sunday, defeating the Mount St. Joseph Lions, 5-0, at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

After outshooting Lynchburg 37-8 yesterday, the Eagles continued their shooting onslaught against the visiting Lions, racking up 35 attempts with 11 being on target compared to just three MSJ shot attempts. For the two weekend matches, the Eagles out shot their opponents 72-11 and for the season, has now tallied 129 as a team.

Sunday was more of the same on the offensive end as Emory totaled a season-high five goals in the shutout. 15 different Eagles registered at least one shot with freshmen Natalie Klar and Kylie Hall leading the way with five shots a piece.

The Eagles scored early and often, netting three goals within the first 17 minutes of action. Senior Shivani Beall led off the brigade with her second goal of the season in the 12th minute. After a shot was blocked, Beall beat her defender to the rebound and put a lob shot towards the left post where it beat the diving MSJ keeper.

Freshman Peyton Robertson was the next Eagle to find the back of the net, as she headed in a Beall corner kick at the 14:18 mark. Her header attempt ricocheted off a nearby defender before crossing the goal line. Classmate Aubrey Blanchard made it 3-0 two and half minutes later as she capitalized on a MSJ turnover inside the 18.

Klar rounded out the first half scorers for the Eagles in the 38th minute with her second goal of the campaign. Junior Caroline Moore sent a pass to the middle of the 18 where Klar settled it herself before beating the keeper to the right post.

An own goal by the Lions in the 64th provided the 5-0 margin in the match. Beall sent a curving pass intended for Blanchard inside the 18 but a Lion defender misplayed the pass and touched it past her own keeper for the tally.

The Eagles will try to keep the momentum rolling when the team faces Maryville College this Saturday, September 21st. Kickoff in Tennessee is set for 3:00 PM EST.
