Women's Soccer Rebounds with 2-1 Win Over Rhodes

The No.-25 ranked Emory University women's soccer team rebounded with a 2-1 victory over Rhodes College Sunday afternoon at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, GA.

Following a tough defeat to Centre on Saturday, the Eagles responded in a big way on Sunday, earning the regional win over the visiting Lynx. Emory outshot Rhodes 31-6 in the contest, 16-3 in shots on goal, and held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.

All three goals came within a ten minute span deep in the second half. Freshman Natalie Klar notched her team-leading fifth goal of the season to give the Eagles the lead in the 68th minute, scoring an unassisted goal from the top of the 18.

71 seconds later junior Samantha Hilsee doubled the Emory lead as she headed in a corner kick by freshman Peyton Robertson. The goal was Hilsee's second of the season while the assist by Robertson was her second of the year.

The Lynx cut the deficit to one in the 77th minute as Sarah DiLuzio beat senior Haley Pratt one-on-one following the deep pass from midfield by Anya Ranaraja. However, the Emory defense prevented them from tying the game, keeping Rhodes without a shot over the final 13 minutes of play.

The Eagles return to the field next Saturday, October 5th, with the University Athletic Association opener on the road against the No.-15 ranked University of Chicago Maroons.
